I am excited about the redevelopment of the Tranquille corridor all the way to Library Square and the roll it will play in the transformation of The Shore. The cultural diversity and high tech sector needs our support both from specific tax deferral strategies and from marketing through Venture Kamloops. The Spirit Square development and The Station are exciting examples of the new vibe on Tranquille Road.
On the south shore, I would like to see the continuation of the Victoria Street improvement area out from 5th to 8th street with a reduction from four to two lanes and expanding of the tree canopy and sidewalks. This would connect Memorial Arena and the Kamloops Curling Club as well as major hotels into the downtown walking experience. I would also like to see a north south extension leading up to Royal Inland Hospital and the medical precinct. The Stuart Wood Cultural Centre proposal and the redevelopment of the BC Lottery Corporation headquarters will be critical to realizing this vision.
I also support a third element of downtown and that is the Thompson Rivers University precinct. With the Reach proposal, we have a great opportunity and need to ensure complete services are available and that the area becomes more cyclable, walkable and pedestrian friendly. Sahali Centre redevelopment will be a critical piece. And the soon to be completed Peterson Creek multi-use path is a critical piece of active transportation infrastructure.
Together we can unite our downtown vision.
